Broken shells can have as much use as intact ones, It’s more personal preference as to whether you pick them up.
If you are picky like me, heheh, you can use the broken ones for other things, fill some jars or pots, make spell bottles with the fragments, have you considered making a set of runes or using them for some form of geomancy?
I prefer to leave intact ones as they are and grind up the broken ones into powders or smaller fragments. A post discussing this can be found HERE.
